  • Some of my earliest childhood memories are watching my father workout in his home gym in the late 80’s when home gyms weren’t exactly a thing yet. I remember the color of the carpet, the sound of the plates clanging together, and my overall curiosity about what he was even doing. From here, I naturally gravitated towards exercise, sneaking into the basement in my early teens and doing exercises he had shown me, even though he asked me not to do them without him in my presence. When I reached High School, I was writing workout plans for myself and my teammates to do in the off-season between basketball and baseball, which wasn’t much more than what inspiration I could pull from muscle magazines and anything Arnold wrote about. This continued throughout college and into my military days, where I finally started to attend lectures and seminars ranging from kettlebell courses to strength and conditioning conferences with speakers I would only find out later that were regarded as “top of their field” at the time.

After a severe injury in the military and a very underwhelming experience with physical therapy, I became obsessed with trying to find ways to regain my strength and overall fitness myself since it appeared none of the gyms or coaches I could find had any answers for me. This obsession took me on a twelve-year journey, traveling the country to train alongside those whom I respected in the industry and who I felt had a lot to offer in the way of teaching me how to do what they did. This journey allowed me the opportunity to work with people from all walks of life, from world recorder holders in powerlifting, CrossFit games athletes, NFL players, MLB players, nationally ranked weightlifters, world-class climbers, and a plethora of general fitness enthusiasts ranging from 13 years old to 72 years young.

My favorite part about this profession would be the puzzle each person uniquely presents to try and figure out so that I can help them extract their potential that they don’t yet see. We all have our own styles for doing this, but at the end of the day, I believe this is why people seek out gyms/coaches to provoke change within themselves (not just physically), and it’s our job to guide them in a way that it can happen.
